Using Portfolio Dashboard Controls

Introduction

The Portfolio Dashboard is designed to deliver a lot of information and to provide insights for both planning and daily management of the portfolio.

Elements

Account (Under Development)

TPC provides consolidation of all your accounts from all your brokers. However, there are times when you may want to just focus on a single account. Use this to select the appropriate account.

Sectors

This quadrant of the display provides a list of all the sectors in which you have interest. It can be sorted on any column by clicking on the column title.

You may also filter what is displayed:

  • Open Only: only those sectors that have open positions will be shown. This is handy for daily tactical management and review of the portfolio.
  • Active Only: only those sectors that you have chosen to be active will be displayed.
By definition sectors are guaranteed to be marked active when there are open positions in the sector. This ensures no hidden positions

  • Open Only and Active Only: all sectors that are active and have open positions are displayed

Active: Check if you want this sector to be considered as active in the portfolio. Over time you may find too many sectors clutters the review process: this helps thin things out.

Act%: The actual portfolio percent held in this sector.

Tgt%: This is your target percentage of the portfolio for a given sector.

Adj%: Calculated adjusted percentage after allocation adjustments.

Lckd: This specifies whether the Target percentage is locked. You may have decided, as part of strategic planning, that certain sectors need to have an established portfolio percentage while others may float as necessary.

Comment: Add a comment to capture reminders or thoughts while working through planning or tactical review of the portfolio.

Any changes to target, locked or comment will enable the appropriate buttons.

Adjust Button: Adjust will allocate your chosen target percentages in a way that respects the relative percentages while ensuring the total is 100%. This features takes some work out of the process by allowing you to just work toward relative holdings, then letting TPC work out the details.

Save Button: Until the Save button is clicked, all work is transient. Once clicked, the adjust percentages become the target percentages, displayed and written to the database.

Equities

The lower left quadrant displays equities. When there is no sector selected, all equities will be displayed. If a sector is selected the quadrant title changes to show that sector and only those equities in the sector are shown. It can be sorted on any column by clicking on the column title.

  • All Equities: When selected, overrides any selected sector and shows all equities.
